Meadow collects no data. Everything stays on your iPad.

Meadow is an app that helps a young child say words by tapping pictures. It has no account to create, never connects to the internet, shows no advertising, and contains no tracking or analytics code. Nothing you or your child do in Meadow is sent to us or to anyone else.

What Meadow keeps on your iPad

To work, Meadow stores a few things in its own private space on the iPad it is installed on:

• Your settings — the age and communication level you chose, the voice, and which words are shown.
• Words you add — if you add your child’s name, a pet, a favourite toy, or any other personal word.
• Photos you add — if you choose to put a photo on a word or on your child’s avatar. Photos are saved without their original camera information, protected by the iPad’s strongest file encryption, and left out of iPad backups.
• A usage record — which words and rooms were tapped and when, daily summaries of that, and your child’s 50 most recent sentences. This exists so you, or your child’s speech therapist, can see how your child is communicating. It stays on the iPad.
• Your parent PIN, if you set one — stored as a scrambled, one-way version in the iPad’s secure Keychain, marked so it never leaves this device.

None of this is visible to us. We have no server, so there is nowhere for it to go.

What leaves your iPad

Nothing, unless you choose to send it. There are two ways something could leave, and both are yours to decide:

• Your iPad’s own backup. Like any app, Meadow’s words and settings can be included in the backup your iPad makes to iCloud or to a computer. That is Apple’s backup, governed by Apple’s privacy policy, and you control it in the iPad’s Settings. Photos added to Meadow are excluded from it.
• The recovery copy. In the rare case that Meadow cannot open its own files, it shows a screen with a “Save a copy of your child’s setup” button. That opens the normal iPad share sheet so you can keep a copy of your child’s words and settings, or send it to their therapist. It only happens if you tap the button, and photos are not included.

Permissions Meadow may ask for

Meadow asks for the camera or your photo library only at the moment a parent chooses to add a photo, inside the settings area behind the parent gate. The photo is used for that word or avatar and stays on the iPad. Meadow never asks for the microphone, your location, your contacts, or anything else.

Children’s privacy

Meadow is made for children aged five and under and is listed in Apple’s Kids category. Because Meadow collects nothing, there is nothing for us to ask a parent’s permission to collect. We do not, and cannot, build a profile of your child. Laws such as COPPA in the United States and GDPR in Europe govern what companies do with children’s data; our answer to both is the same — we never receive any.

Deleting what Meadow stores

• Delete all My Words and personal photos, in the My Words settings, removes every personal word and photo. It cannot be undone.
• Clear communication history, in Privacy & About, erases the usage record, the daily summaries and the recent sentences in one step. It keeps your settings, words and photos. It cannot be undone.
• Reset All Settings, in Privacy & About, puts the settings back to their defaults and keeps your words, photos and usage record.
• Uninstalling Meadow removes everything it stored on the iPad. There is no copy anywhere else to ask us to delete.

Who makes Meadow

Meadow AAC is published by Any Funded Need LLC. It is free, with no purchases inside the app. If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date; because the app has no way to contact you, this page is the record.
